Welcome back to a new term and a new year. I hope you have had a merry Christmas and enjoyed all the festivities. On behalf of my teachers and myself I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and students for their cards and presents.
Classes resume on Saturday 7th January
Timetable Changes: There have been a few changes to the timetable to accommodate the students who took their exam/assessment last term, but we have tried to keep those to a minimum.
New Syllabus: The Royal Academy of Dance is changing the Grade I to III syllabi and I will be attending the launch on 3rd January. All teachers will be attending a course and we will start introducing the new syllabi in the summer term.
Adult Ballet/Tap: Last term we offered ADULT TAP & BALLET classes on MONDAY evenings at Charter School from 7pm – 8pm, but unfortunately we only had one regular attendee. I have had two further enquiries and if we can get the number to around 8 to 10 regular adults then I will try to slot the class in again on a Monday.
Exams: Congratulations to all the students who took their tap examination last term. We had 100% pass rate again with good high merits & distinctions. Please see the list of results on the notice boards. The results for last term’s ballet exams are due the week commencing 16th January, and we will hand out certificates, reports & medals as soon as we receive them from the Royal Academy of Dance. There will be more exams this term on Sunday 4th March for Grades I, II, III & IV and Tuesday 6th March for Pre-Primary and Primary and we will contact you if your child is ready to take their exam. In the higher grades they MUST attend two ballet classes per week.
Show for the Olympics: We have booked the Michael Croft Theatre at Alleyn’s School for our celebration of the London Olympics and will be performing ‘Around the World’ on SATURDAY 7thJULY. The rehearsals will take place during class times with two extra Sunday rehearsals to bring it all together on Sunday 24th June and Sunday 1st July. It is in early stages of planning so as yet we are unsure of what age group we will be starting with. It will be very exciting and the chance to perform before our big production in February 2013 – more details to follow!
New classes & teachers: We welcome Flora Martin, who has been assisting Miss Jo on Mondays at Grafton and Miss Hodge on Tuesday at St. Faiths and will now be assisting Miss Foster on Mondays with the Pre-Primary class at Charter School. Also, Polly Tring, who helped cover the teaching of classes last term and she will continue to do so. I hope she will start to assist on Fridays. Some of our classes are currently full and we have waiting lists. In order to keep up with the demand I will be looking for a second venue on Saturday mornings.
Auditions: Last term, 3 students, Charlotte Flynn, Alex Limb and Rachel Limb, successfully auditioned for EYB’s Swan Lake, which is being performed at Dartford Theatre in March. Charlotte was one of the six girls who were asked to further audition for the scholarship but unfortunately didn’t get it, and will not be able to take part due to her music school commitments. Both Rachel and Alex will find out their parts in January – very exciting for them and we wish them the best of luck. Please go along to watch and support them.
RAD Workshops: The Royal Academy of Dance has published its programme of workshops and courses for 2012 for all ages from 4 years up. Further information is available on their website.
