About Us

Our School

Dulwich Ballet School (DBS) was established in 1990 by Sally-Ann Hodge. In its early days the school specialised in ballet training only, but over the years has taken pride in extending the range of dance styles covered to include Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Body Conditioning and specialist Pointe Work classes, for all ages and abilities.

We have an enthusiastic and dedicated team of qualified teachers who take pride in their work and encourage each individual student to achieve their goals. In addition to regular lessons the School offers examinations, and students are encouraged to take part in our bi-annual show, based on a popular classical ballet, in a local theatre (see our latest production here).

Why Dulwich Ballet School?

The School is passionate to provide opportunities for building strong friendships and self-confidence in an environment that encourages fun and enjoyment through the medium of dance.

The school offers students the opportunity to perform, express themselves and be part of a team irrespective of age or ability.

We are proud of our success rate in affiliated examinations and progress into further vocational training with recognised dance companies.

Affiliations

The School is affiliated with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and upholds the values and ethos of these International Organisations. Students are externally examined, accredited and their qualifications are accepted for higher level dance courses.

DBS assesses and encourages students throughout their time with us with a view to entering RAD (Ballet) and ISTD (Tap and Modern) exams according to their ability with the full support of the School.

The syllabus provides the students with a broad spectrum of dance and enables them to develop in the different styles. As a result of this training our students become an appreciative and enthusiastic audience of tomorrow.

Dance never becomes easy.
It becomes possible.
